Superb treatment of the Civil War. It is extremely difficult to come up with new perspectives, but it has been achieved in this book. Great job. Highly readable and extremely interesting. - Prof Mike Haller

I've a degree in history which was heavily weighted towards study of the Civil War, and I think this is one of the best book I have read about that terrible conflict. It ranks right up at the top with Lee's Lieutenants.

I decided to buy "Eyewitnesses to the Civil War" based on the reviews - and am very glad I did. Found a new copy from an Amazon-affiliated dealer for under $10.00, which is a wonderful deal for a nice coffee table book of over 400 pages, filled with interesting Civil War articles and 375 photos of battle fields, daguerrotype portraits, uniforms and gear. It is with pleasure that I recommend it to you.
