Exactly what I expected

Review by Steve, 2010-08-24

For this review, and maybe others about this product, remember that the cost was under $25.00, so you'll get $24 worth of materials, craftsmanship and features with this rifle case. The latches shut securely, it's lightweight, and is pretty stable when leaving it on the ground (or carpet) in an upright position. I knocked a star off, simply because my Tactical Remington has a tendency to work its way to the bottom of the case as I carry it. The foam isn't thick enough to squeeze it in place. So I glued a layer of foam beneath the foam it comes with -- problem solved. I got a small plastic pencil case to hold some spare ear plugs, and other loose things I want to keep in the case. In the end, it works great to transport my shotgun, and was pretty much exactly what I expected to get for $24.99.

You get what you pay for.

Review by P. Hauge, 2010-08-05

Pros: It's a box that closes and a rifle can fit inside.

Cons: The plastic is very thin and flimsy. The handle is also just as thin and has the feeling of being just slightly thicker and sturdier than the handle on a gallon milk jug. If you were to just use the center locking hole, one could easily bend open the case on either end and remove the contents. If you want your rifle to be safe, you MUST use at least three padlocks. Even still, a good knife could easily cut through the plastic and remove the locks as the holes for the locks are not reinforced at all. One could also easily use a knife and simply cut the case open and take the rifle out. The foam inside is not glued in at all. When you open the box, the piece on the top is always separated and laying on top of the rifle. Some spray adhesive could easily fix this, but why didn't plano just do it themselves?

In the end, if you are expecting more, pay more.

Very good product for the price.
Little on the small side for a scoped rifle, but does work.

Quality Poly Hard Case for scoped rifles

Review by Delta Echo, 2010-05-07

Very pleased with the quality of construction. I own 4 of these cases, housing a Mossberg Pump 12 GA Shotgun, an HP995TS with a red dot sight, a Marlin .22 with BSA scope and a Mossberg .22 plinkster with a BSA scope. All fit very well in each case with plenty of room for additional magazines and misc. items. My Bushmaster AR15A3M4 factory case is actually flimsier and is smaller than these cases.

These are not rated for shipping or transport, they are for carrying to/from Range and storage. Excellent oversized foam padding compresses well to snug contents. They stand well as pictured handle up, and also stand well on end with barrel skyward.

If you are shipping a rifle or need something to transport it unattended, buy a lockable metal hard case. I've read reviews of people thinking of using these type of cases to house very expensive scoped rifles or trying to use them for transport--if you own a $2500 rifle, expect to pay more than $24 to protect it.

As with any poly cases, their rigidity depends on the weight of the item stored. When properly closed, these cases can sustain a drop from hand carry level without popping open.

These are great cases for the money for everyday rifles, with plenty of room for large scoped weapons (approx. 45" x 7 1/2" interior room, 6 1/4" at handle).

Note: Just added an order for my 6th case, as my collection grows, these are still the best cases for storage and carry.

Shotgun Case

Review by Joseph Murphy, 2010-04-15

Bought this for my 37 inch 12 gauge Shotgun. A little big but shotgun fits well, even with a shell holder attached to stock. Case locks well and easy to latch with weapon in it. The foam lining does stay in place and has enough give when closing the case. Lightweight and appears durable. Purchased for storage, and to keep shotgun dust free. Plano is known for quality cases, and you cannot beat the price. Would recommend this case.Plano 10470 Gun Guard SE Single Rifle Case
